Kate Chilton, BamCore - Building With Bamboo

Bobby Hite Season 1 Episode 7

The built environment is responsible for 40% of greenhouse gas emissions, waste, and resource extraction, as well as 30% of biodiversity loss. To address the impact of the built environment on climate change, BAMCOR is using fast-growing fibers like bamboo and eucalyptus to reduce embodied carbon. These fibers have the ability to regrow quickly and sequester carbon, making them more sustainable than traditional materials. BAMCOR also uses a panelized system called LOBIC (Load Optimized Biogenic Industrialized Construction) to create tighter building envelopes and reduce thermal bridging. This system is easy to assemble and reduces construction waste. To be better, we need to move towards circular and regenerative ways of living, choosing renewable energy sources and reusable products.
